Bridged only works when the host is connected to the internet (this is a laptop) so when it's not connected the network is down. I am trying to give my win guest internet access, but also access the host in a separate network. Set that networking option to bridged and you and your virtual machines will be good to go. Bridged - bridge an adapter in the host with the virtual adapter to give the host access to the host adapter. But if you’re not sure where those options are, or what to do with them, you’ll find yourself frustrated when your virtual machine servers cannot be reached. VirtualBox makes it pretty easy to deal with networking options. You can then set your virtual machine up with a static IP address and the machines on your network will be able to reach the server. By selecting Bridged Adapter, your guest operating system will work on the same network as does your host.

Now you can click the adapter and start the setup wizard. On right side, click ' Add host-only network ', after a few seconds, you should see an adapter with name similar to 'VirtualBox Host-Only Ethernet Adapter' created.
